Frieze Los Angeles returns to Santa Monica Airport for its sixth annual edition, consolidating its position as one of the most prestigious events on the contemporary art circuit. Bringing together more than 100 galleries from over 20 countries, the fair presents an innovative selection of contemporary art, combined with an ambitious program of installations, collaborations with non-profit organizations and the participation of renowned local restaurants.

Since its first edition in 2019, Frieze LA has established itself as an essential space for dialog and appreciation of contemporary artistic production. In 2025, the event gains even more relevance by taking on a key role in rebuilding the city’s cultural scene, which was heavily impacted by the recent forest fires. As part of this commitment, the fair is incorporating new community projects, including the LA Arts Community Fire Relief Fund, created by the J. Paul Getty Trust to support artists and art professionals affected by the fires in January.

Maintaining its status as the foremost art fair in the Hispanic world, ARCO Madrid is a major international event. The 2024 edition of the fair, its 43rd, showcased 250 galleries from 36 countries, notably many from Latin America, particularly Argentina, Brazil, and Mexico. With 400 collectors and 200 professionals from 40 countries in attendance, the event solidified its importance to the growth of the Latin American art market.

Sales at ARCO Madrid usually range between $20.000 and $100.000; however, the fair also offers a chance to discover new artists gaining recognition in prominent institutional collections and to acquire their art. Private initiatives and specialized exhibitions targeting the Latin American market highlight Madrid’s dynamic and promising position as a hub, solidified by this event. For 2025, the expectation is that the fair will continue to expand its relevance and consolidate its role as an essential platform for dialog and appreciation of international contemporary art.

In 2025, the fair celebrates its 44th edition with the Amazon as its central theme. The curatorial project, entitled Wametise: ideas for an Amazofuturism, will be developed in collaboration with the Institute for Postnatural Studies. The program proposes reflections on new forms of creation that represent hybrid existences between human, plant, physical and metaphysical bodies.

Every year in March, the medieval city of Maastricht becomes the epicenter of the global art market with The European Fine Art Fair (TEFAF). Globally recognized as the top art fair for museum-quality pieces, showcasing 7.000 years of art.

TEFAF’s rigorous expert vetting process, ensuring authenticity, provenance, and conservation, sets it apart from other global fairs. The high standard maintains its prestigious reputation, attracting top international collectors, museum directors, and curators from institutions like the British Museum, Louvre, Musée d’Orsay and MoMA to acquire exceptional works.

The 2024 edition demonstrated the cross-collecting concept’s importance and the fair’s increasing influence, boasting a 20% attendance rise and strong sales. In 2025, we anticipate even greater success, with new exhibitors and a larger program set to further energize the global art market.

As a major global art event, Art Basel Hong Kong demonstrates Asia’s growing significance in the international art market. Returning to its pre-pandemic format in 2024, the event saw a 37% jump in exhibitors, 242 galleries from 40 countries, showcasing the region’s diverse art scene.

The rising interest of mainland Chinese collectors is expanding the Asian market. The 2024 Art Basel and UBS Global Collecting Survey shows that Chinese collectors were the top art and antiques investors, outspending all other regions by more than double.

Reflecting this movement, the 2025 fair will feature 240 galleries across 42 countries, demonstrating its continued dedication to global diversity and Asia-Pacific art.

With 23 first-time galleries, the next edition will feature solo exhibitions by emerging and established names. In addition, the event will expand its cultural initiatives, including a first-time partnership with local organization Para Site and the debut of the MGM Discoveries Art Prize, which offers a cash prize of $50.000, split between the winning artist and their representative gallery, as well as the opportunity to exhibit in Macau, China.

Over two decades, SP-Arte has become Brazil’s premier art fair, significantly contributing to the growth and professionalism of the country’s art market. The international recognition of Brazilian art also gained prominence with the curatorship of Adriano Pedrosa at the Venice Biennale, giving visibility to modernist artists.

The 2024 edition attracted a younger audience and saw an increase in transactions from R$10.000 to R$100.000, as well as millionaire sales in secondary market galleries. More than 170 works were donated to institutions such as the Pinacoteca, MASP and the National Museum of Fine Arts, with the support of collectors such as Rubem Valentim and Ana Maria Maiolino.

With a focus on the future, SP-Arte reaffirms its commitment to strengthening the market, creating opportunities for artists and galleries. The fair positions itself as a catalyst for the Brazilian art ecosystem, connecting national production to the global scene, and points to a promising future with greater international recognition.

Art Dubai is an international contemporary art fair that has been held annually in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, since 2007. The 2025 edition is scheduled to have previews on April 16 and 17 at the iconic Madinat Jumeirah. Each year Art Dubai spotlights around 120 contemporary, modern and digital galleries from over 40 countries. The gallery programme is accompanied by artist commissions, an ambitious education programme and the most extensive talks and conference programming of any international art fair, including Global Art Forum and an annual Digital Summit.

Frieze New York has been one of the leading international art fairs since 2012. Directed by Christine Messineo, who also leads Frieze Los Angeles, the event brings together the world’s most renowned galleries to present solo, group and thematic exhibitions by innovative artists. 

The fair offers a unique opportunity to discover new talents and interact with great names in art history. Following last year’s edition, Frieze New York returns to The Shed in Manhattan, at the same time, a special edition of the Frieze Viewing Room will take place online, connecting galleries and international audiences.

TEFAF New York 2024 presented a diverse selection of modern and contemporary art, jewelry, antiques and design, with 89 international exhibitors from 15 countries, including renowned galleries such as Galeria Luciana Brito from São Paulo.

One of the main attractions was the celebration of the centenary of the Surrealist Manifesto, with an exhibition of works by artists such as Lucio Fontana, Alberto Burri, Alighiero Boetti and Salvo, who profoundly influenced 20th century art. In addition, the fair highlighted the growing presence of women artists in the art market, reflecting the diversity and quality of the works presented.

The 2025 edition will feature 91 internationally prominent exhibitors, including 78 returning galleries and 13 new participants, representing 13 countries, 21 cities and 4 continents. In addition to curated spaces in the 16 historic rooms of the Armory, an exclusive feature of the fair and presentations in the Creative Spaces, providing an enriching experience for visitors.

Basel in Switzerland has become the epicenter of international art with Art Basel, the original and most prestigious edition of the fair. Considered the main platform for the contemporary art market, the event brings together more than 250 leading international galleries exhibiting masterpieces of modern and contemporary art by renowned artists. During the fair collectors can find a variety of mediums from paintings, sculptures, photographs, videos, performances and NFTs that set trends and generate millions in sales.

The fair also has special sectors such as Unlimited, which houses large-scale projects, and Parcours, which proposes urban interventions alongside lectures, VIP events and a breathtaking parallel program.

In 2024, the 14th edition of ArtRio attracted international collectors and curators, presenting programs such as Contemporary Brazil and the Sculpture Garden, showing the resilience of the Brazilian art market in the midst of global economic uncertainty.

The fair is known for highlighting Brazilian and indigenous artists, with strong demand for contemporary works priced between R$50.000 and R$200.000. With its 15th edition in 2025, ArtRio is expected to continue promoting Brazilian art and expanding its international presence.

Each year, the fair welcomes more than 100 collectors and curators from outside Rio de Janeiro, including visitors from countries such as the United States, Panama, Switzerland, Paraguay, Spain, Peru, Denmark, France, Turkey, Belgium and Italy. The program also includes visits to museums and institutions, galleries, studios and private collections.

Held from October 15 to 19 in Regent’s Park, London, is one of the most sophisticated art fairs in the world, offering a unique look at the history of art. Art Basel Miami is especially significant for the Latin American art market, serving as a key platform for showcasing the region’s talent and fostering connections between Latin American artists and international collectors. The presence of high-profile figures like Ken Griffin and his Citadel firm further underscores the fair’s importance, highlighting the growing interest and investment in contemporary art from the region.

The 19th Venice International Architecture Exhibition will address the theme Intelligens. Natural. Artificial. Collective, exploring how architecture adapts to the challenges of the future, including climate change and population evolution. More than 750 participants will take part in the event, forming interdisciplinary and multigenerational teams. There will be 66 National Pavilions, with 4 countries represented for the first time: Azerbaijan, Oman, Qatar and Togo. The Biennale will be structured around three thematic areas: Natural Intelligence, Artificial Intelligence and Collective Intelligence, focusing on the role of architecture in adapting to a changing world, considering the use of AI, sustainability, and architectural solutions for space.

Jaider Esbell’s first U.S. exhibition features paintings and drawings from his final years from 2018 to 2021. A Macuxi artist, activist and educator, Esbell’s art reflects indigenous cosmology and pressing socio-political issues, blending intricate patterns with mythological narratives. Highlights include his visual translations of Macuxi myths and depictions of Kanaimé spirits.

The exhibition highlights Esbell’s fundamental role in promoting indigenous art in contemporary contexts, emphasizing his concept of “artivism” to defend indigenous rights and territories.

Royal Academy of Arts – London, England

The exhibition brings together more than 130 works by ten important Brazilian artists of the 20th century, covering the period from 1910 to 1970, a milestone of modernism in Brazil. Most of the works come from Brazilian public and private collections, many exhibited for the first time in the UK.

Curated by Fabienne Eggelhöfer, Roberta Saraiva Coutinho and Adrian LockeHighlights of the show include Anita Malfatti, pioneer of the movement, Tarsila do Amaral, internationally recognized, as well as Alfredo Volpi, Djanira da Motta e Silva (of indigenous descent), Rubem Valentim (Afro-Brazilian artist) and Flávio de Carvalho, known for his performances.

Location: Museum of Latin American Art in Buenos Aires – Argentina

In 2025, MALBA, with Rodrigo Moura, former chief curator of El Museo del Barrio in New York and Instituto Inhotim in Minas Gerais, as its new curator, presents the exhibition Yo, Vos y la Luna by Tunga, one of the great names in Brazilian contemporary art, represented nationally by Galeria Millan and internationally by Luhring Augustine.

Curated by María Amalia García and Nancy Rojas and from the Sarina Tang Collection, the installation explores themes such as time and transformation, using elements such as stones, mirrors, crystals and a fossilized trunk. The exhibition also includes a 2015 documentary and 36 drawings from the Tunga Institute, which delve into the central concepts of the artist’s work.

Location: Guggenheim Museum Bilbao – Spain

The exhibition, curated by Cecilia Braschi and Geaninne Gutiérrez-Guimarães, focuses on Tarsila do Amaral’s influential career between the 1920s and 1960s, highlighting her fundamental role in Brazilian modernism and her contributions to the Pau-Brasil and Anthropophagic movements, which reshaped national art and culture.

Tarsila’s works, marked by a uniquely “Brazilian” iconography influenced by Cubism and the European avant-garde, explore themes of identity, multiculturalism and social change. Her art reflects activism, engaging with the complexities of Brazil’s cultural heritage and its transformations throughout the 20th century.

Location: Centre d’Art Contemporain Genève – Switzerland

Antonio Obá’s first major retrospective in Europe, curated by Andrea Bellini, brings together paintings, sculptures, photographs, videos and performances that re-examine spiritual practices and confront stigmas linked to racism.

With a focus on the reappropriation of African heritage, Antonio Obá, represented in Brazil by the Mendes Wood gallery, challenges the social structures that have historically diluted black culture, proposing new narratives for Afro-Brazilian traditions. The artist’s body, a central element in his work, questions eroticization and the construction of black identity, generating powerful reflections on history, identity and resistance.

Location: Guggenheim Museum – New York, United States

The exhibition by Brazilian artist Beatriz Milhazes, represented nationally by Galeria Fortes D’Aloia & Gabriel and internationally by Pace, highlights her vibrant abstract paintings created using the “monotransfer” technique. Inspired by Tarsila do Amaral, Matisse, Mondrian and Burle Marx, Milhazes combines organic shapes, geometric patterns and references to folklore, popular culture and nature. Curated by Geaninne Gutiérrez-Guimarães, the show includes works from the Guggenheim and important loans.

Location: El Museo Del Barrio – New York, United States

Bringing together more than 30 sculptures by the artist, writer and spiritual leader Mestre Didi, the exhibition covers his production from the 1960s to the 2010s. His works reinterpret Candomblé ritual objects, creating a modern sculptural language. The artist’s first major exhibition in the USA in 25 years also includes works by contemporary Afro-Brazilian artists. Curated by Rodrigo Moura, chief curator, and guest curator Ayrson Heráclito, with the participation of Chloë Courtney, assistant curator.

Location: Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain – Paris, France

A major retrospective of Colombian artist Olga de Amaral, known for her innovative three-dimensional textile works. The exhibition explores her use of materials such as linen, horsehair and gold leaf, influenced by constructivist art, Latin American crafts and pre-Columbian traditions.

Location: The Hispanic Society Museum & Library – New York, United States

The exhibition highlights the most recent works from Adriana Varejão’s acclaimed Plate series, represented by the Fortes D’Aloia & Gabriel and Gagosian galleries. Inspired by historical ceramics and enriched with the vibrant flora and fauna of the Amazon, these large-scale pieces, made of fiberglass, combine elements such as Valencian Spanish designs and Ming dynasty porcelain, exploring themes of ecology and culture. A partnership with the Gagosian Gallery that connects historical and contemporary art.

April

Date: From April 08 to July 20, 2025
Location: Musée d’Orsay – Paris, France

The Musée d’Orsay will host an exhibition dedicated to Brazilian artist Lucas Arruda, represented by the Mendes Wood gallery in Brazil and internationally by the David Zwirner gallery, as part of the France-Brazil Season 2024. Curated by Sylvain Amic and Nicolas Gausserand, the show will feature small canvases from the Desert-Model series, which depict imaginary, luminous landscapes created from the artist’s memory.

This is the first solo exhibition by an artist from the southern hemisphere at the Musée d’Orsay. The proposal explores the relationship between light and introspection in Arruda’s work, establishing dialogues with the Impressionists. At the same time, a selection of his multimedia works will be exhibited at the Carré d’Art in Nîmes.

Location: Gulbenkian Center for Modern Art – Lisbon, Portugal

The exhibition brings together artists Paula Rego and Adriana Varejão, exploring themes such as violence and power dynamics, both in the political and private spheres. With around 80 works, Paula Rego’s rare painting A Primeira Missa no Brasil (The First Mass in Brazil), 1993, belongs to an English private collection. It is curated by Adriana Varejão, Helena de Freitas and Victor Gorgulho. The exhibition will be accompanied by a publication co-published with Lenz Press.

Location: Grenoble Museum – France

Brazilian artist José Antônio da Silva is featured in an exhibition that brings together 40 paintings from private and institutional collections. Curated by Gabriel Perez-Barreiro (University Museum of Navarre) and Emilio Kahlil (Iberê Camargo Foundation), the exhibition highlights the work of the “Brazilian Van Gogh”, whose self-taught works mix vibrant colors with criticism of rural social reality, environmental destruction and globalization.

Location: Neue Nationalgalerie – Berlin, Germany

The Neue Nationalgalerie presents Lygia Clark’s first retrospective in Germany, curated by Irina Hiebert Grun and Maike Steinkamp, bringing together around 150 works produced between 1950 and 1980. The show highlights the artist’s interactive approach, allowing visitors to interact with replicas created especially for the exhibition, as well as take part in performances and workshops. The retrospective is accompanied by a bilingual catalog in German and English, the first publication dedicated to the artist in this language.

Location: Musée National Picasso – Paris, France

This will be Anna Maria Maiolino’s first retrospective at the Picasso Museum in France and explores central themes in her production, such as exile, social and political conditions in Brazil, gender issues and censorship.

Awarded the Golden Lion at the 2024 Venice Biennale. Of Italian origin, Maiolino studied at the Escuela de Artes Plásticas Cristóbal Rojas, in Venezuela, and in Brazil, at the Escola Nacional de Belas Artes, connecting with movements such as New Figuration and New Objectivity during the 1960s, in the shadow of the military dictatorship. From the 1980s onwards, his research delved deeper into materiality and gesture, consolidating a continuous and interconnected experimental process.

Ernesto Neto’s exhibition for the 2025 France-Brazil season will feature his sculpture The Earth Drum Boat. Created last year, the work symbolizes a journey and represents the vital energy of the Earth through a boat carrying drums from different parts of the world. The installation celebrates the power of drums in different cultures. Neto is working carefully to ensure that the work reaches Paris, overcoming the challenges of maritime transportation.

The Black Baroque exhibition, the brainchild of Emílio Khalil, director of the Iberê Camargo Foundation and head of the France-Brazil project, in partnership with Sophie Su Art Advisory, will be held in the historic Saint Eustache Church in Paris.

The event proposes a symbolic and striking gesture: the replacement of the white saints with Brazilian Baroque saints from Emanoel Araújo’s collection, currently belonging to the Lia Maria Aguiar Foundation, which acquired the collection in a single lot at the Art Exchange. The initiative highlights the richness and diversity of Afro-Brazilian sacred art, reviving its historical and cultural importance.

The program will include a recital on the church organ performed by a string quartet from the city of São Paulo, creating a unique atmosphere that dialogues with the space and the theme of the exhibition.

The opening, scheduled for September 18, 2025, at the renowned Galerie Natalie Seroussi (34 rue de Seine), co-curated by Sophie Su Art Advisory, offers a dive into Brazilian roots. Bringing together ancestral spirituality, original mythologies and contemporary visions, the exhibition explores Brazil’s relationship with nature, presenting the country as a microcosm of global diversity.

As part of the Journées du Patrimoine program on September 20 and 21, the opening of the exhibition at André Bloc’s Villa in Meudon will feature a Roda de Samba performance that celebrates the cultural richness of Afro-Brazilian music with historical archives. The musical event will be deeply connected to the rue de Seine fine arts exhibition, creating an immersive and complete experience that reflects the depth of the Brazilian soul.
