Henrique Oliveira was born in Ourinhos, São Paulo, Brazil, in 1973, and lives and works between London and São Paulo. Internationally recognized for his monumental installations, sculptures, paintings, and immersive environments, his practice explores architecture, nature, organic transformation, and material displacement. Using discarded plywood from São Paulo’s urban construction sites, he creates expansive structures resembling roots, branches, tunnels, entrails, and bodily forms, transforming industrial waste into organic environments that explore growth, decay, invasion, and ecological instability.
Oliveira has participated in major exhibitions including the São Paulo, Mercosul, Taipei, Lagos, and Abu Dhabi Public Art biennials, and has presented institutional projects at MAC USP, Palais de Tokyo, the Museum of Fine Arts Gifu, the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art in Kanazawa, QAGOMA, and the Museum of Fine Arts Boston. His work is held in collections including MAC USP, Instituto PIPA, the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, and QAGOMA, with permanent installations at Arte Sella in Italy and Domaine de Chaumont-sur-Loire in France.
