Julio César Aristizabal was born in Colombia in 1981 and lives and works in São João del-Rei, Brazil. A Colombian visual artist based in Brazil since the 2000s, he has developed a practice focused primarily on painting, creating large-scale works characterized by intense color, overlapping planes, and references to the Afro-Indigenous cultures of Latin America. His work brings together memory, territory, ancestry, and Latin American identity, drawing on images, symbols, and atmospheres that connect everyday experience, collective history, and political imagination.
Trained in Fine Arts at the Universidad de Bellas Artes FUBA in Medellín, and with a career closely connected to the Brazilian art scene, he has participated in exhibitions and projects such as Três Fronteiras at Z42 Arte in Rio de Janeiro with Galeria Radiante, as well as group exhibitions at Aura Galeria in São Paulo and presentations at art fairs including SP-Arte, ArtSampa, and ArtRio. To date, no reliable public sources have been found confirming his official participation in any edition of the São Paulo Biennial or the presence of his works in permanent museum collections.
