About the artist

Marcela Dias was born in Recife, Pernambuco, Brazil, in 1998, and lives and works in Brazil. A Brazilian visual artist, she develops a practice centered on painting, investigating the materiality of oil paint, the processes of image construction, the landscape, and the boundaries between form, perception, and abstraction. Holding both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in Visual Arts from the Federal University of Pernambuco, Dias treats the canvas as a field of continuous experimentation, in which gesture, error, erasure, transparency, and revision serve as fundamental components of her compositions. Her paintings construct fleeting atmospheres and unstable visual fields, exploring the relationships between color, surface, memory, and sensory experience. Her recent exhibitions include *UMBO* at Galeria Claraboia in São Paulo (in partnership with Galeria Marco Zero); *Longe, enfim* at Garrido Galeria in Recife; and *Desertos e esconderijos* at Acervo Diária in São Paulo. She has also participated in group exhibitions at the Museu Murillo La Greca, Funarte, and Galeria Janete Costa. Her work is part of the Banco do Nordeste collection; to date, no reliable public sources have been found confirming the presence of Marcela Dias’s work in permanent museum collections.
