Maya Weishof was born in Curitiba, Brazil, in 1993, and currently lives and works in São Paulo. A Brazilian contemporary artist, her practice focuses primarily on painting and drawing, exploring the relationship between the human body, landscape, memory, and imagination. Through fragmented compositions, distorted figures, caricatures, and hybrid creatures, Weishof constructs complex visual narratives in which bodies and environments intertwine, challenging conventional distinctions between figuration and abstraction. Drawing inspiration from mythology, personal memories, dreams, and art history, her work embraces ambiguity, transformation, and the expressive possibilities of painting. Her compositions frequently combine organic forms, vibrant colors, and unconventional perspectives, creating imaginative worlds that resist linear interpretation.
Weishof graduated in Visual Arts from the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR) in 2016 and participated in international artistic residency programs, including Zaratan Arte Contemporânea in Lisbon, Pivô Arte e Pesquisa in São Paulo, and Palazzo Monti in Brescia. Her solo exhibitions include Quarto de máscaras at Almeida & Dale, São Paulo (2026); O último dia do século at Galeria Millan, São Paulo (2023); Fever Nights at Galerie Hussenot, Paris (2022); and Headless at Kupfer, London (2021). She also participated in the 14th Mercosur Biennial in Porto Alegre (2025), alongside exhibitions at Museu Oscar Niemeyer and Instituto Tomie Ohtake. Her works are held in institutional and private collections, including the Pinacoteca de São Paulo, Museu Oscar Niemeyer, and Rennie Museum Collection in Vancouver, Canada.
