About the artist

Nara Guichon was born in Santa Maria, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, in 1955, and has lived and worked in Florianópolis, Santa Catarina, since 1983. A Brazilian textile artist, designer, and environmentalist, she develops a practice centered on manual processes involving threads, fishing nets, natural fibers, knitting, crochet, embroidery, weaving, natural dyeing, and the repurposing of materials. Her work bridges art, sustainability, material memory, environmental stewardship, and artisanal knowledge, transforming textile waste and organic elements into poetic structures characterized by delicacy, regeneration, and ecological awareness. In her compositions and installations, forms such as nets, weaves, cocoons, archipelagos, and plant-like organisms evoke the relationships between the body, territory, nature, and transformation. Guichon has participated in exhibitions and projects both in Brazil and abroad, including the First Material Art Biennale at Tsinghua University in Beijing; the Ibero-American Design Biennial in Madrid; the Fibra Bienal in Porto Alegre; *Impressões em tempo* (Impressions in Time) at the BRDE Cultural Space in Florianópolis; and *Dos mares, das águas* (Of Seas, of Waters) at Carmo Johnson Projects. She was a recipient of the 2024 PIPA Prize, and her works are part of the Instituto PIPA collection; to date, no reliable public sources have been identified confirming the presence of Nara Guichon’s work in specific permanent museum collections.
