The Campana brothers’ shared interest in design led them to collaborate and create their own design studio, Estudio Campana, in São Paulo in 1983. They often used found materials to create unique furniture pieces. Their creations challenge traditional design norms and blur the boundaries between art and design. Their designs can be whimsical, humorous, and thought-provoking, reflecting their playful and experimental approach. One of their early breakthrough pieces was the “Vermelha Chair” (1993), a chair made from hundreds of meters of bright red cotton cord. The Campanas have collaborated with various international brands and galleries, and their work has been exhibited in major museums and design exhibitions around the world. Their designs are included in permanent collections of prestigious institutions like the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York and the Centre Pompidou in Paris. The brothers’ work often carries a social and cultural commentary, addressing issues such as consumerism, sustainability, and Brazilian identity. They have worked with local artisans and communities, integrating traditional craftsmanship techniques into their designs.
