Pancetti

Jose Pancetti’s early years saw his family’s relocation to Italy, where they settled in Bologna. His journey continued as he joined the Italian merchant navy, and in 1920, he returned to São Paulo. By 1922, he had made his way to Rio de Janeiro and enlisted in the navy. It was during his time with the Bernardelli Nucleus that he made a decisive commitment to pursue painting as a lifelong endeavor. In 1941, his talent was recognized when he secured the prize for a European trip in the Modern Division of the National Fine Arts Salon. Subsequently, in 1948, he earned a gold medal in the same salon. He made notable appearances at the 1950 Venice Biennale and the 1951 1st São Paulo Biennale. An exhibition curated by Denise Mattar, titled “Pancetti: The Solitary Mariner,” made its debut in 2000 at the Museu de Arte Moderna da Bahia, Salvador, before being showcased in 2001 at the Museu Nacional de Belas Artes, Rio de Janeiro, as well as at the Museu de Arte Brasileira da Fundação Armando Álvares Penteado, São Paulo, and at the Palacio Doria Pamphili, the Brazilian Embassy in Rome, Italy.
