Nazareth’s earliest artistic training came from Brazilian artist Mestre Orlando, who taught him wood carving. He studied drawing and engraving at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG).
Paulo Nazareth’s artistic expression encompasses various mediums, including photography, installation, video, print, found objects, and sculpture. However, his durational performances form the core of his practice.
Drawing from his travels, experiences, extensive research, as well as his Indigenous and African roots, Nazareth explores topics of race and marginalization.
Paulo Nazareth’s art can be found in major institutional collections, including the Tate, the Museu de Arte de São Paulo, the Museu de Arte Moderna do Rio de Janeiro and the Pérez Art Museum Miami.
