Emanoel Araújo, was an engraver and sculptor, he attended the School of Fine Arts at the University of Bahia (1960) and studied engraving with Henrique Oswald. He held several solo exhibitions in Brazil and abroad, in cities such as Osaka and Kobe, Japan (1967), and Washington, USA (1975). He took part in the Salão Nacional de Arte Moderna (exemption from the jury in 1967), the Panorama de Arte Atual Brasileira (grand prize for printmaking in 1977), the Bienal de São Paulo (1967 and 1976), the Biennale of Graphic Art in Florence, Italy (gold medal in 1970), the II Festival of Black Art and Culture in Lagos, Nigeria (1977), etc. He won several awards, including Best Printmaker (1973) and Best Sculptor (1983 and 1995), both from the São Paulo Association of Art Critics. In the early 1980s, he set up and ran the Bahia Art Museum and began publishing art books. From 1992, he also ran the Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo for almost ten years.
