Iberê Camargo enrolled in the painting and drawing course at the School of Arts and Crafts of the Companhia dos Funcionários da Viação Férrea. Between 1954 and 1955, together with other emblematic artists such as Djanira da Motta e Silva, he took part in important movements such as the Salão Preto and the Salão Miniatura. Through them, he protested against the high taxes on the import of artistic tools, a fact that demonstrates Iberê Camargo’s spirit of contestation. In 1960, one of the artist’s most iconic works was created. This is because the famous “Carretéis” series is created, an event that promotes the expressionist abstractionist style of his art. He soon took part in several exhibitions in cities such as New York and Paris, which gave his career epic proportions. Then, in the 1970s, he taught at the School of Fine Arts at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul. During his life, he composed important works, covering both technical subjects, such as engraving, and the literary segment, through the production of short story publications.
