Jac Leirner is a highly acclaimed Brazilian contemporary artist recognized for her sculptures and installations made from common objects like bank notes and shopping bags.
In 1984, Jac Leirner received her BFA in Fine Arts from the Fundação Armando Álvares Penteado, in São Paulo. She is renowned for her use of everyday materials in her works, such as bank notes, cigarette packaging, airline paraphernalia, business cards, and more recently items purchased in hardware stores. Her works, which are conceptually rigorous and formally beautiful, incorporate influences from various art movements such as Dada, Constructivism, Pop and Conceptual Art, Arte Povera, and Punk. The artist was awarded numerous grants and residencies.
