This year, the Brazilian presence was more marked than ever, with 8 Brazilian galleries exhibiting their creative jewelry and 18 international galleries exhibiting works by Brazilian artists. But the real highlight came in the form of a statistical revelation: among the 250 participating galleries, 26 chose to present Brazilian artists. It represents 10.4% of the total market at the fair, which, though not a modest slice, carries significant symbolic importance for both historical and emerging artists.
Despite being a small fish in the vast ocean of global art, the Brazilian market is far from irrelevant. Currently, Brazil represents less than 1% of the global art market, but this is double the 0.5% it held a decade ago. However, the tides are turning. Year after year, we witness an increase in total international art market sales, driven in part by the vibrant energy of Brazilian talent.

Established in 2012 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, by Alessandra Clark and Nuno Franco de Sousa, the studio, through its unique design approach, aims to craft narratives that prompt introspection, evoke emotions, and lead to sensory exploration. For this edition, Mameluca is presenting a project themed around bridges and dialogue created through everyday objects, featuring artwork sculptures that can be projected at human scale. All pieces are functional, numbered editions of design art. The finishing of the pieces is impressive, enhancing the poetic nature of the entire project.

The first VIP days at Art Basel 2024 have been quite a success for the Brazilian market, marking a pivotal moment. The consistent presence of Brazilian galleries at international fairs has facilitated the inclusion of national artists on the global stage. Additionally, partnerships with international galleries are increasingly boosting the market value of Brazilian artists. Despite Brazil currently representing less than 1% of the global art market, its share has doubled from a decade ago, reflecting a significant upward trend.
We believe this is a Well thought-out choice, as Brazilian collectors represent significant wealth that is rare worldwide. Brazil has 69 billionaires in 2024, an increase of 18 from 2023. This increasingly valuable audience, with their penchant for travel and multiple residences, represents a prime target for international galleries. With 10% of exhibitors including Brazilian artists in their portfolios, this strategic move acknowledges not only the talent of these artists but also the significant value of tapping into this unique market.
