He commented that art fairs have lost the face-to-face dynamism they used to have, functioning more as a physical brand platform, while most sales and the day-to-day work of dealers take place via WhatsApp.

Although the fair was favorable for contemporary works priced between R$50,000 and R$200.000, higher-value pieces, including modern Brazilian artists, faced less demand. Nevertheless, enthusiasm for contemporary art remains strong, further consolidating Brazil’s growing role on the international art scene.

Whereas the Brazilian art market has shown progress, it still remains relatively isolated, while the global market faces declines driven by economic and political factors. One example of this is Sotheby’s, which is facing financial difficulties. The auction house has been postponing payments and is dealing with cash flow problems, despite the $1B deal with Abu Dhabi’s sovereign wealth fund, which is still pending.

In addition, major galleries such as David Zwirner and Hauser & Wirth have recently announced mass layoffs, while several galleries in New York have closed their doors due to the unfavorable economic environment.

As the global art market faces challenges, it is essential to keep abreast of the dynamics and trends shaping this ever-evolving landscape. Stay tuned to our updates to keep a close eye on news and developments, analysis and information about the world art market.
