About the artist

Arnaldo Pomodoro (b. 1926) is an Italian sculptor renowned for his monumental bronze works that explore the tension between geometric perfection and internal complexity. Born in Morciano di Romagna, he initially trained as a surveyor and worked in architecture and goldsmithing before turning to sculpture in the early 1950s. His signature pieces, such as the Sphere Within Sphere (Sfera con Sfera), feature polished exteriors that reveal intricate, fragmented interiors, symbolizing the contrast between order and chaos. These sculptures are installed in prominent locations worldwide, including the Vatican Museums, the United Nations Headquarters in New York, and Trinity College Dublin. Pomodoro's contributions to art have been recognized with numerous awards, including the Praemium Imperiale for Sculpture in 1990. He continues to influence contemporary art through the Fondazione Arnaldo Pomodoro in Milan, which he established in 1995 to promote artistic research and education.
