Higo José was born in São Benedito, Ceará, Brazil, in 1994, and lives and works in São Paulo. A multidisciplinary artist, his practice spans embroidery, textiles, sculpture, installation, and object-making, drawing on ancestral imagery, prehistoric visual culture, cave paintings, and archaeological forms. Using textiles, thread, stone, clay, wood, and other tactile materials, he creates symbolic works that evoke bodies, traces, monuments, rituals, and collective memory, exploring desire, ancestry, sexuality, spirituality, material transformation, and the persistence of archaic forms in contemporary visual culture.
His exhibitions include Paleovisões at Galeria Estação, São Paulo; Pinturas Rupestres at Casa Fiat de Cultura, Belo Horizonte; Pré-História and Além do Universo Fálico at Lona Galeria; Linhas de Cinema at CineSesc; and the group exhibitions Aproximações and Você consegue me ver? at the Museu de Arte de Ribeirão Preto (MARP).
