Iris Helena was born in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, in 1982, where she lives and works. Working across painting, drawing, photography, and installation, her practice explores memory, feminine identity, subjectivity, and the emotional construction of space. Combining layered compositions, delicate chromatic structures, archival imagery, handwritten elements, and domestic references, she merges autobiographical fragments with collective experiences of intimacy, silence, and affective recollection.
Influenced by literature and cinema, Helena explores presence and absence, impermanence, and emotional residue, often using translucent surfaces, fragmented figures, and ambiguous architectural spaces. Over the last decade, she has participated in exhibitions focused on contemporary Brazilian painting and experimental practices, developing research at the intersection of image, narrative, and subjectivity.
