Joko Nastain was born in Klaten, Indonesia, in 1987, and lives and works in Yogyakarta. An Indonesian visual artist, he works primarily with acrylic on canvas, developing a figurative language shaped by imaginative narratives, symbolic characters, and atmospheres that move between the playful and the surreal.
Self-taught, he first moved to Bali and later to Yogyakarta in search of closer engagement with the art scene, with Tino Sidin and Affandi among his early references. His compositions explore childhood memories, domestic spaces, play, everyday objects, and fantastical worlds, creating visually dense scenes that combine humor, imagination, and an emotional reflection on freedom, solitude, and contemporary life.
He has participated in exhibitions within the Indonesian and international art circuits, including Another World at V&V Gallery in Jakarta and V&V’s participation in Art Central Hong Kong 2026, as part of the Rising Currents by MTN Seni Budaya program.
To date, no reliable public sources have been identified confirming the presence of Joko Nastain’s work in permanent museum collections.
