Jorge Mayet was born in Havana, Cuba, in 1962, and lives and works between Palma de Mallorca, Spain, and Brazil. A Cuban visual artist working across painting, sculpture, and installation, his practice explores memory, exile, identity, displacement, and belonging. Using materials such as wire, paper, fabric, acrylic paint, and suspended structures, Mayet poetically recreates trees, roots, houses, and landscapes connected to memories of his native Cuba. His signature uprooted trees and floating landscapes evoke the experience of diaspora and the emotional ties between territory, longing, and origin.
Mayet has exhibited internationally at institutions and galleries including Saatchi Gallery, London; Es Baluard Museu d’Art Modern i Contemporani, Palma de Mallorca; Leo Gallery, Hong Kong and Shanghai; Galeria Inox, Rio de Janeiro; RFT Fine Art, Miami; and Triumph Gallery, Moscow. His work is held in notable institutional and private collections, including the Museum of Arts and Design (MAD), New York, and Saatchi Gallery, London.
