Based in São Paulo, this Brazilian visual artist develops a multidisciplinary practice spanning sculpture, installation, painting, photography, video, and object-based work. His practice investigates material culture, displacement, memory, belonging, and the symbolic circulation of everyday objects. Using materials sourced from street markets, popular bazaars, and vernacular contexts, Penalva creates assemblages, spatial structures, and compositions that articulate strategies of informal commerce, traditional craftsmanship, affective memory, and social transformations linked to urban life in Brazil. His work shifts utilitarian objects from their original contexts, revealing layers of use, desire, labor, precarity, and collective invention. A graduate in Social Communication from PUC-Rio, with studies at the Escola de Artes Visuais do Parque Lage, he has participated in exhibitions and projects both in Brazil and abroad—including *Sala de Estar* at the Museu Mineiro; *Forró* at the MARP (Museu de Arte de Ribeirão Preto); *Casa Carioca* at the MAR (Museu de Arte do Rio); *Alpendre* at Portas Vilaseca Galeria; and *Dois pra lá, dois pra cá* at Simões de Assis in Curitiba—as well as residencies such as Casa Wabi (Mexico) and the Fountainhead Residency (Miami). His work is held in significant institutional and public collections, including the Museu de Arte do Rio (MAR), the Museu Oscar Niemeyer (MON), the Museu de Arte de Ribeirão Preto (MARP), the Museu de Artes Plásticas de Anápolis (MAPA), the Casa Wabi Foundation, the Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation (CIFO), and the Acervo da Laje in Salvador.
