Mateu Velasco was born in New York, United States, in 1980, and moved to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, as a child. A Brazilian visual artist, he engages in a practice that spans painting, drawing, muralism, illustration, and digital experimentation, exploring the relationships between the city, memory, perception, nature, and contemporary visual culture. Holding a degree in Industrial Design and a master’s degree in Graphic Design from PUC-Rio, he began his professional career as an illustrator in the late 1990s, later expanding into public murals in the early 2000s. He developed a distinct visual language characterized by layering, graphic signs, urban fragments, and references to everyday life. His work integrates observation, drawing, color, and composition, transforming elements of the urban landscape into poetic images that reflect on the contemporary experience and the humanization of the city. He has participated in exhibitions both in Brazil and abroad—including the solo exhibition *Ponto Cego* (Blind Spot) at Galeria Movimento in Rio de Janeiro—and has completed projects in cities such as São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Los Angeles, New York, Paris, and Milan. To date, no reliable public sources have been found confirming the inclusion of Mateu Velasco’s work in permanent museum collections.
