Paulo Alves (b. 1965) graduated as an architect from USP-São Carlos. Before becoming a designer, he worked in Lina Bo Bardi's office and at the Bardi Institute, where he helped inventory the architect's archives for a book and exhibition after her death in the 1990s. Lina Bo Bardi's work and thinking had a profound impact on Paulo Alves, who found a direct connection to his childhood in the countryside through her reflections on popular culture and knowledge. Besides furniture design and special joinery projects, he also worked on architectural projects simultaneously. The work of Paulo Alves reflects his childhood in the countryside, the legacy of Lina Bo Bardi, handcrafted joinery, and inspiration from concretist art. The wood plays a central role in his furniture, with its natural and symbolic characteristics.
