Sofia Borges has emerged onto the Brazilian contemporary art scene with a distinct and intriguing visual approach. Born in São Paulo, her artistic journey began in the 2000s, when she studied at Faculdade Santa Marcelina and Escola São Paulo de Fotografia. Since then, her work has been marked by a unique fusion of photography, sculpture and installation, exploring concepts of time, memory and perception. Borges gained international recognition for her provocative and conceptual exhibitions.
In 2015, she was featured at the 56th Venice Biennale, representing Brazil with an installation that challenged the boundaries between photography and sculpture. Her participation in the Biennale earned him critical acclaim and expanded his global reach.
Over the years, Borges continued to expand her artistic practice, exploring new techniques and concepts. In 2018, she presented a solo exhibition at the Moreira Salles Institute in São Paulo, in which she investigated the relationship between the photographic image and material reality. Her ability to create immersive and atmospheric environments captivates the viewer, inviting them to reflect on the nature of the visual experience itself.
In addition to her solo exhibitions, Borges also participated in important group shows around the world, including the Arles International Photography Festival, in France, and the Guangzhou Triennale, in China. Her work challenges aesthetic conventions and questions the limits of visual representation, establishing her as one of the most innovative artists of her generation.
