Bruno Giorgi (1905-1993) in the early 1920s, he studied drawing and sculpture. His involvement in anti-fascist movements led to his arrest and seven-year prison sentence. After spending four years in detention, he was extradited to Brazil following the intervention of the Brazilian ambassador to Italy. In 1937, he studied in Paris at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière and the Académie Ranson, where he met Aristide Maillol, who was to influence his work. He also met Henry Moore, Marino Marini and Charles Despiau. Returning to São Paulo in 1939, he worked with the artists of the Santa Helena group, and also took part in the Familia Artistica Paulista. In 1943, at the invitation of Minister Gustavo Capanema, he moved to Rio de Janeiro and set up his studio in Praia Vermelha, where his pupils included Francisco Stockinger.
