In 1997, Anselm Reyle began his art studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe, Germany. He moved to Hamburg in 1999, where he continued his education at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste. In the 2000s, Reyle gained recognition for his vibrant, experimental works and use of unconventional materials.
In 2002, Reyle settled in Berlin, where he co-founded the studio-factory Giti Nourbakhsch, which has become a leading space for contemporary art.
In 2005, he participated in the Lyon Biennale, and in 2006 he had his first solo exhibition in the United States, at Gavin Brown’s Enterprise in New York.
He has had solo exhibitions at Galeria Almine Rech in Paris (2007), Galeria Gagosian in London (2009) and Kunsthalle Zürich in 2010. In 2011, Reyle was the subject of a major retrospective at the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Barcelona (MACBA).
In 2014, he presented a solo exhibition at the Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg in Germany, cementing his reputation as one of the most innovative artists of his generation.
Throughout the 2010s, Reyle’s works were exhibited at several international art fairs, such as Art Basel in Miami and the Frieze Art Fair in London.
In 2017, Reyle announced a temporary break from his artistic career, however, he returned to the art scene in 2020 with an acclaimed exhibition at the König Galerie in Berlin.
Anselm Reyle is known for challenging the limits of contemporary art with his colorful and textured works, which often provoke reflections on the aesthetics of consumption and the banality of everyday life.
