Vicente do Rego Monteiro (Recife, December 19, 1899 – 1970) was a painter, sculptor, poet, and teacher. His work incorporated modernist influences, with a strong emphasis on Marajoara art and indigenous motifs, connecting him with artists and intellectuals of the São Paulo modernist movement, such as Di Cavalcanti, Tarsila do Amaral, and Oswald de Andrade. He participated in the Semana de Arte Moderna of 1922, presenting eight works between oils and watercolors. In 1967, he also took part in the exhibition Precursors of Modernism in Latin America at the Center of Inter-American Relations in New York, United States. He taught at Ginásio Pernambucano, the Recife School of Fine Arts, and the Central Institute of Arts in Brasília, establishing himself as one of the central figures of 20th-century Brazilian art.
