Antonio Obá’s first major retrospective in Europe, curated by Andrea Bellini, brings together paintings, sculptures, photographs, videos and performances that re-examine spiritual practices and confront stigmas linked to racism.
With a focus on the reappropriation of African heritage, Antonio Obá, represented in Brazil by the Mendes Wood gallery, challenges the social structures that have historically diluted black culture, proposing new narratives for Afro-Brazilian traditions. The artist’s body, a central element in his work, questions eroticization and the construction of black identity, generating powerful reflections on history, identity and resistance.
